Best Focus Apps for SAT, ACT, AP, MCAT and LSAT Prep
A test-prep app teaches the material. A focus app stops your phone from stealing the practice window. Use both—but give each a clear job. The best setup protects full-length practice without locking you out of the tools you need.
Five tests, five different study workflows
| Exam | Keep available during revision | Protect this block |
|---|---|---|
| SAT | Bluebook on a supported device, official questions and an error log | Adaptive practice followed by mistake review |
| ACT | Current official practice resources and subject notes | Timed practice using your current test format |
| AP | Course-specific material, practice questions and rubrics | Retrieval plus free-response practice |
| MCAT | Question bank, flashcards and official prep resources | Passages, science review and full-length practice |
| LSAT | Official practice environment and review notes | Timed reasoning practice and careful error analysis |
Your Android blocker is not the SAT testing platform
College Board provides full-length digital SAT practice in Bluebook. Use its current device requirements; do not assume an Android focus app makes your phone a supported exam device. Run the official practice on the appropriate device and use FocusComet to keep the Android phone out of the session.
Likewise, use current official ACT, AP, MCAT and LSAT instructions for format and timing. The suggestions here are phone-control routines, not test accommodations or permission to use a phone during an examination.
Separate practice from review
Create a Practice profile that hides social media, games, shopping and the browser if it is not needed. Create a Review profile that allows explanations and flashcards. Put a specific deliverable in the plan: review every missed question, identify the reasoning error and choose tomorrow’s drill.
For MCAT preparation, a long day is several blocks, not one uninterrupted endurance challenge. For LSAT reading and reasoning, a fixed 25-minute interruption may be wrong for the task. Use Pomodoro to begin avoided revision and a normal timed session for a mock. Make Hard lock deliberate, not the default for every study day.
Pick the app for the test-prep problem you actually have
| Your problem | Shortlist | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit and Instagram steal the gap between sections | FocusComet | The icons vanish until your session ends |
| You want rule-based app and website blocking | AppBlock or Stay Focused | Granular schedules and strict settings |
| You track hundreds of prep tasks | Focus To-Do or Engross | A timer built around your to-do list |
| Streaks keep you consistent | Forest or FocusComet | Grow trees, or grow a universe, every session |
| You want a free starting point | Android Digital Wellbeing | Built-in Focus mode on many phones |
Match the phone plan to the test calendar
SAT and ACT dates are spread across the school year, AP exams take over the first two weeks of May, the MCAT runs from January to September and the LSAT has several administrations a year. Whatever you are sitting, the best phone setup counts back from your test date.
Eight weeks out: schedule one FocusComet session at the same time every day so practice becomes automatic. Practice tests: run each full test as one long session at real timing, with Vanish Mode clearing Instagram, Reddit and games off your screens. Test week: use Allow-only to keep just Bluebook or your prep platform, calls and maps, and use Hard lock for the final evenings so a late-night scroll cannot cost you a section.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Android focus app for SAT, ACT, AP, MCAT or LSAT prep?
FocusComet if the problem is reaching for your phone between questions: Vanish Mode takes the tempting apps off your screens for the session. AppBlock or Stay Focused suit detailed website rules, and Focus To-Do suits task-heavy plans.
Should I take breaks every 25 minutes during a full practice test?
No. Mirror the real test timing in one continuous session. Use 25/5 rounds for review, flashcards and error logs.
Can I keep Bluebook, my prep platform and calls available?
Yes. Hide only the distracting apps, or use Allow-only to keep a short list of exactly what test prep needs.
